Juxtaposed Views was created in my studio, El Carámbano Bermellón, between 2005 and 2006. This series arose from a deep need: to explore the relativity of perception and the multiplicity of our views.
I have always felt that what we see is not the only truth. Each of us interprets reality from our own history, our own feelings, our own moment.
In this series, I wanted to capture that idea: we are many versions of ourselves. Sometimes we see ourselves in one way, others perceive us in another, and the soul contemplates us from an even deeper dimension.
Juxtaposed Gazes brings together imaginary and real portraits, faces that invite us to cross the threshold between what the eyes see and what the heart perceives. Some faces are fantasies born from my inner world; others, such as the portrait of Coppoletta, my self-portrait, or the young man with three gazes, have real roots.
I painted each work using oil glazes, superimposing light layers of color that, like our different perceptions, construct an identity in motion, changing, elusive.
This series is, for me, a celebration of the invisible.
A reminder that the true gaze is found not only in the eyes, but in the soul.
